Pre-Field Day Warm-Up April 29, 2006 @ Cullen Park
On 29 April 2006 the Katy Amateur Radio Society held an exercise to test our ability to set-up operations in an area without antenna supports or power, other than what we brought to the site. We operated from Cullen Park, all of the antennas used had to be self-supporting (park rules) and we powered the stations with generator power.
The antennas included a home-brewed vertical IK-Stik-2 capable of operating 75 meters through 10 meters. A G5RV supported on a tripod and push up pole, and a portable vertical for 40 meters through 20 meters.
Band conditions on that Saturday did not favor us, however, we did make several contacts around the U.S. and we had a good time. All of those who attended had favorable comments and stated that they would like to see us have this type of operation a couple of times a year.
