Houston Amateur Radio Supply to host Open House January 19th
David McCombs K5FNG of the Houston Amateur Radio Supply will be hosting his
annual Open House Day on Saturday, January 19th 2013 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Those who have attended this event in the past know that the hot dogs, chips
and sodas he provides are just what we need on a brisk Saturday morning. The
store will be featuring several items at reduced prices and will offer door prizes on
an hourly basis.
You are invited to set up your “tailgate flea market” in the parking lot as usual. Get
there early for the prime locations. Bring your best stuff for sale or swap.
That item you no longer have use for could be just what some other guy is looking for.

Going to try to make this event (as well as the Monday night meeting). I want to move ahead with a dual band mobile unit and something I can use as a dual band ground plane that won’t raise the ire of the HOA gestapo. Also need to develop a long wire multi band receiving antenna. Time to get serious about this “hobby”.

Oh crap.. the gears are turning now…. I started off with a Yaesu FT 60R, bought the USB cable, software for programming, etc. All is good. Couldn’t resist picking up a BAOFENG UV-5R for under $50 bucks new. Got the cable for it and I understand CHIRP will work to help program this “gem”. I’ll be conversing with the vastly knowledgeable and shamefully underrated members of KARS on this and other issues. See you soon.

After the fact…. I spent the first part of the day at the races (Pinewood Derby.. with my grandson’s Cub Scout Pack)… I arrived at Houston Amateur Radio Supply about 2:30 pm.. the door was locked and the Closed sign was out. Guess the early bird gets the deals, be it worms, radios, coax, information or just chatter.
Is there a Houston based forum where I might inquire to find a dual band mobile rig, gently used??
