HAM test result – 02/18/12

February 19th, 2012 No comments

Even the weather was quite challenging… Mr. Jim of Richmond has visited and passed his Extra test. We had other person scheduled to come, but it seems like he was unable to do so.

We had Del, Ron, Joe, and myself to conduct the test. Darrell stopped by. After all, we had a relaxing testing session with a good fellowship.

Can You Help? CERT Rodeo 2012 — 02/11/12

February 9th, 2012 No comments

We’re less than four days away and we urgently need additional Ham radio
operators for the CERT Rodeo 2012 for this Saturday 2/11/2012. Can you
help? We would greatly appreciate your assistance. If you’ve already
signed up, Thank You! Further information will be sent to all within the
next day or two for all who have signed up.

The Harris County CERT Rodeo is an event where CERT (Community Emergency
Response Team) members compete as teams and test the skills they’ve learned
against other teams. This rodeo will be held on February 11, 2012.at the
Harris County Fire Marshall’s Office at 2318 Atascocita Road in Humble,
Texas 77396.

We’re seeking Ham radio operators to provide all communications for this
event. It’s an all day event, but we can accommodate half day schedules if
needed. The event is on one location over a wide area, so a handheld,
headset (if working an event station) and spare batteries are all that will
be needed for all but the net control station.

Some positions will not require a lot of physical exertion and some will
require a lot of walking. We have created a simple questionnaire to send to
the volunteers who respond to ask about their physical abilities, any CERT
training and specific interest they may have for positions, etc.

This is being sent to many of the club mailing lists as well as directly to
a number of hams. Please forgive us if you get this multiple times as we
have several distribution lists and you might be on more than one.

Pass this information on to any amateur radio related e-mail reflectors you
may belong to and at any amateur radio related meetings so we can get plenty
of volunteers. Please include the date and my contact information on to
your members. If you could put “CERT Rodeo 2012″ in the subject line and
email to n5cas@earthlink.net and cc perez.alfred@gmail.com that will help us
as well.

Thanks for taking the time to read through this and for giving this some
serious thought. We’re look forward to hearing back from you.

High Visibility Vests – Amateur Radio Emergency Communications

February 9th, 2012 No comments

Dear all,

Our Jason just sent me this very neat deal… please contact Sid directly (n5zkd@sbcglobal.net) for any questions.

***

Sidney Sherwood, N5ZKD is taking orders for the Amateur Radio High
Visibility Safety Vests again. As you will see from below the more he
is able to order the cheaper the cost. Please pass this around to
others outside the Harris County ARES organization as this is a
generic vest and not specific to Harris County ARES.

1 – 11 vests $40
12 – 23 vests $33
24 – 47 vests $30
48 – 59 vests $29
60 + vests $28

I have not placed an order yet. I have 11 folks wanting vests. 1 more would make a dozen and take $7 dollars of the cost of each vest.

Go to the following link for the best look at the vest. Select the ‘New ARES Vest’ tab.

Thank you,

Sid

Woodlands Help Needed (Woodlands Marathon, 03/03/12)

February 5th, 2012 No comments

Tom kindly forwarded this info – Woodlands need our help!

Please read below, and visit the website provided to register if you could volunteer.

***
We are looking for communications volunteers to support the 2012 “The Woodlands Marathon.”

I want to let you know that this event has just reached a competitor
registrations level that makes this the biggest event of it’s type in The
Woodlands.

If you have the opportunity, please do spread the word that we need helpers.

We currently have about 1/4 of the number we would ideally have to provide the
level of coverage we’d like, and it’s about 5 weeks away, so please help as much
as you can.

Make sure you direct potential volunteers to:

http://www.woodlands-event-comms.info/the-woodlands-marathon

or, have them google ‘woodlands event comms’ to get there.

Thank you very much!

best regards,

Peter Belbin KE5STL ke5stl@gmail.com
